J.L. SALAZAR y HERMANOS Reserva Especial Cigars Toro is a typical Box-Pressed cigar. They are silky, rich and dark. The master rollers have handmade each one to draw firmly and to burn evenly. The tobacco leaves in these cigars are aged for over three years and specially cured through four fermentations. The Filler is a sun-grown Cuban Seed Habano tobacco from Tabacalera Esteli. The Binder is a wrapper quality Habano 2000 leaf and the Wrapper is a flawless Ecuadorian grown Habano leaf. Each cigar is exquisitely made in the same old fashioned way that the Salazar Family made them in Cuba. The Toro cigars are an elegant 6” long and have a large ring gauge of 52.

Since 1810, when the Salazar family settled in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, they have been growing some of the worlds finest tobacco and handcrafting fine Puros. At 12 noon every day, the 4 Salazar brothers would meet in the porch of elder brother Mario’s house. Mario would open his burlap bag which contained the finest tobacco leaves of the farm’s harvest. The cured leaves were perfect in appearance and taste. They were envied by all the farmers in Cuba’s prime tobacco growing region. The burlap bag would be passed around and each brother would hand roll their own Cubans. They would each roll enough cigars for the day’s smoke. Each would have a different preferred size of cigar but the blend would always be the same for all four brothers. Mario’s sons, J.L. Salazar and his brothers, have carried on that tradition and special blend of tobacco leaves in these exquisite boutique handmade cigars. The J.L. Salazar y Hermanos Cabinet Selection cigars are each totally hand made by a master roller. They consist of the secret blend that the Salazar Brothers brought from Cuba, and use only the finest leaves. The mellow and rich taste is unmatched. After trying these, you too will know why J.L. Salazar and his brothers are so proud of their family tradition.

Wow what a great smoke!! very nicely made and what a great burn, nice and even throughout the whole thing. Flavor started nutty and smooth and got nice and spicy about a quarter of the way down. Only wish it was'nt box pressed, it makes it a little tight and also burns a little slow because of it. I would give it an 8 out of 10 on my personal scale the only one higher would be the vegas de tabacalera which i would give a 9 out of 10.

Best smoke.

Subject :: Toro

Well i have to admit writing a negative review in top 25 cigar.com and apologized few days after for being completely wrong. The toro is a really fine and smooth cigar, with a very chocolaty flavor, a tight cuban style draw with just the right amount of smoke and a white, firm ash. apologies for being so wrong and please accept my compliments for these fine cigars. Christian

Subject :: Salazar addiciction

I am hooked, these are just as good as the cuban cigars that i have smoked,or better.and the service at cuban crafters is incredible, they have really made me happy,thanks cc

Subject :: Salazar is smokin!

Subject :: J.l. Salazar reserva especial toro

you have a great product in j.l. Salazar smokes. As always we are never disappointed with this brand! Highly recommended product at a great price- full bodied with a nice even draw, excellent long white clean ash, from a nice hand rolled premium cigar!! e.c. Nickerson

Subject :: Salazar beats the best

I fully understood why cc refers to the salazar line as there finest cigars after i had the salazar toro. Construction is excellent with all cigars at same size and same chocolate colour. The velvety wrapper is smooth with fine veins and smells like honey before the gicar is lit. The cap is excellently attached and provides a neat amputation of the head when cut with a guillotine cutter, without any unravelling. Draw is eager but firm and the cigar delivers indulging clouds of white smoke. Typical of cigars longer than robusto's, it is a slow starter which hides it's complex, delicious flavours during the first inch of smoking. But the well aged and well fermented leaves soon release their bouquet of light cedar and earth, soft vanilla, creamy espresso and white chocolate. The long filler leaves burn perfect and it is possible to put the stub down on top of it's full length ash so that it remains upright, if smoked with care. The cigar finishes with spirit and introduces light leather to it's bouquet during the final 2 inches of heaven. This cigar is a classic and i put it right up there with padron, montecristo platinum & fonseca serie f. Hein garbers, south africa

Subject :: Salazar toro

Really well made and one that is pleasing to the eye with an auburn hued wrapper. Nice even draw with consistency in flavor throughout. Tastes of light pepper and chocolate. Smoked it to the nub! B. kaekel

Subject :: Great

Just as described. Excellent aroma, plenty of smoke. Only complaint was i had to relight. I think i may have gotten a dud, but what an amazing dud. I'll certainly purchase more. Even if i didn't get a dud, far better than most at this price.

Wow is all i can say. These will knock your socks off. My boss has been smoking for all of 20 years and he smokes $150 to $250 a box. I gave him one of these and I think he's hooked. Great taste, great look, and the people around love the smell. well done!!

Subject :: right on time...

I was just telling a few friends about this cigar and how good it is. I was given one of these by a shop owner before the holidays. In his store, he advertises these as being comparable to the higher end padron's. I never buy anything that says it's like something else, i never want to be disappointed after spending my money on an opinion like that. But since it was given to me, i tried it and was very pleased by it and the comparison. You'll have plenty of repeat customers for this product. -tim

Subject :: The wait is over

Just got home and my j.l.salazars toros were on the table. The wait is over... opened them up. Cutter in hand, lighter in other, the moment of truth has now arrived. Sat down to the p.c. With the toro lit, cocktail in hand. I have to say this is the best for the money you can buy... compare it to r+j maduro or any other maduro you won't be disappointed i promise you. In fact i will be placing another order when i get done with this review. Chaldo

This one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. I purchased a sample pack which contained this particular brand. To be honest, i thought that this was going to be just a regular low budget cigar, but boy was i impressed by the smooth taste and well balanced aroma. I will definitely purchase this one in the near future. A++++++++ awesome!!!! regards, mark

Subject :: Spice tamed!

I smoke a good many cigars, but this one is fairly unique in that it\'s a maximum spice stick that is nicely smoothed out. First, this isn\'t for the newbie...it stings a bit early on and is definitely a medium to fuller bodied smoke. That said, it\'s excellent in that it does what it does so smoothly and even has a good measure of complexity that keeps the smoker\'s interest throughout. this cigar comes packaged nicely, but is fairly unassuming as to it\'s super premium quality. If it carried a pretentious label it would have a price double + and a box that cost about three or four times what the simple carrier here is likely to set the maker back. This is exactly what smokers like myself need. It fills a hole in the market place and does so with great aploumb! The construction is a solid 9 or 10 as it is firm box-pressed yet draws effortlessly. The wrapper is a medium brown with just the lightest red tinge to it and it is of medium thickness so it is not particularly fragile. Furthermore, the wrapper looks very nice with only medium amount of veining that seems to insure a very even burn. And so it smokes with no corrections needed as long as you do not lay it down for any extended time. The ash tends toward the whiter side of grey and it holds well. All this seems to indicate the impression of a well blended and constructed stick which actual smoking does nothing but confirm. if cuban crafters can be consistent in the quality of the several boxes i purchased (i am a dealer) they have an absolute world class winner of major proportions. My benchmark cigars are the cuban montecristo el mundo, the cuban romeo y julietta short churchill, and the nicarauguan padron 1964 imperial and this cigar stands right with them and does so at a better price. Like i say, though, it all depends if cuban crafters can consistently deliver this cigar with the same flavor profile as the two boxes i have purchased for sale. if anyone who blended these reads this i want you to know these boxes are from late 2006 and your work is appreciated. Pleass, please, please do not change anything and please, please, please, keep this high standard of excellence!

Subject :: They\'re right!

All the great reviews, that is.

Subject :: I love these cigars!

These cigars are great! Love the smell. I agree with another reviewer that them being box pressed make the draw a little tight and it definitely is a slow burner. I disagree with other reviewers that this cigar is not for beginners. Since it has such a tight draw, it\'s very forgiving of smoking too fast, especially early on when the draw is tightest. This is probably my favorite weekend smoke. It doesn\'t produce a lot of smoke - kinda wispy - but it\'s very aromatic and smooth. Not harsh at all. I would compare it favorably to a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, but for a fraction of the cost. Again, excellent smoke...very pleased.

Subject :: J.L. SALAZAR Y HERMANOS TORO

I have always liked the strength of the regular Dominican Monticristo but wished it was a little more flavorful. These are for my taste a much more flavorful cigar that beats many much higher priced cigars. I opened the end with a punch and it had perfect draw and burn with billows os smooth flavorful smoke that never got harsh. There are no other cigars that I would buy by the box as I like variety and some of my favorites are too expensive and all other cigars in this price range bore me halfway through the box. These are the exception; I will buy a box of these for sure when my supply wanes a little. Thank you for making a great cigar that is affordable for most smokers.

Subject :: One of the Best

Ok... I bought two boxes of the J.L. SALAZAR Y HERMANOS toro\'s on sale and a great price. But when they came I was charged full price big mistake made. I called CubanCrafters the next day and they did an outstanding job in taking care of my concerns with the order. CubanCrafters knows how to take care of there customers. That\'s why when I come down to Miami from Michigan to see my daughter this is the only place I go to buy cigars sit and relax. Oh yes about J.L. Salazar cigars... this is a very high end cigar it ranks right up there with the best no question about it. Now I really like the MEDINA 1959 MIAMI EDITION but I have to say J.L. has the edge... just a great great cigar... but both are. See you soon CubanCrafters, Larry from Michigan

Subject :: If Not The Best

Ok... In the evening I sit down relax and have a good cigar pretty much every night. I currently have 3 Boxes of Salazar Toro\'s and 2 boxes of Churchills in my humidor so what\'s that tell you what I think of this very high end cigar. For a few of what else is in my humidor are Jaime Garcia Reserva, RP\'s Vintage 90-92\'s, Alec Bradley\'s, Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970\'s, Man O Wars, Nestor Miranda SS, Oliva G-V\'s,Romeo Julieta Reserva\'s. Plus many others... Now I\'ve also had My Fathers, AVO\'s, Pardon 1926 BUT!!! I have to tell ya... JL Salazar\'s are every bit as good IF not better then what I just mentioned. No one will believe me or you unless you try one. Once you do you\'re hooked. I think I\'ve smoked 10 so far and everyone are exactly the same. Very well made, Burn, Draw dry and lit outstanding, tons of smoke, full body but very smooth to the nub. I just order a box Cabinet Selection 6x60\'s also. Oh I also have Medina 1959 in my humidor 6x64\'s. If you haven\'t been to Cuban Crafters in Miami you\'re missing out. Every time I go down to Miami from Michigan I\'m there. Larry Michigan
